Hire Vets Medallion Program
I wanted to share this amazing opportunity to be recognized for your support in recruiting and employing Veterans, the HIRE Vets Medallion Program, the only federally recognized awards program, sponsored by the U.S. Dept. of Labor.
In 2019 the U.S. Department of Labor today awarded 427 employers from around the nation for recruiting, employing and retaining America's veterans. The award recipients attest to hiring more than 52,000 veterans since 2017.
"The recipients of the 2019 HIRE Vets Medallion Awards demonstrated a commitment to hiring veterans and helping them develop meaningful, long-term careers," said U.S. Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia. "From small-town businesses to Fortune 500 companies, these employers understand that veterans are uniquely qualified and dedicated employees who make significant contributions in the workplace."
As we see a renewed interest in “Made in America”, what can be more patriotic than supporting those that have sacrificed for our country - American Veterans! You, as employers, are keenly aware of the benefits of hiring vets – what they bring to the table in terms of skills, ability and work ethic. Yet, do you give much thought to the benefits of hiring said vets outside of those skills? Namely a way to both recruit transitioning vets leaving the military and re-entering the civilian workforce, and promoting your company as support the American Way and American Dream. Vets leaving the service, and Vets who have already exited, can access the website to see who in their local area supports Veteran hires, creating a ready-made talent pool.
The purpose of the HIRE Vets Medallion is to recognize employers who hire and retain veterans, including their efforts to establish employee development programs and veteran specific benefits to improve retention. Award recipients will have the opportunity to utilize the medallion in the marketing of their firm as a veteran friendly business when hiring, and in efforts to attract additional business. These medallions can be used for your website, social media and other marketing platforms and materials.
The award is based on number of employees, veteran support programs and services, and offers two levels – Gold and Platinum. You have the choice of which level you wish to apply to. The DEADLINE to apply is April 30, 2020. The employer will be notified if awarded in the fall and award winners will be announced by the Secretary of Labor on Veterans Day 2020. There is a nominal cost incurred with the award, but this can be charged to your marketing budget.
